Brian Kushner is a serial entrepreneur who co-founded CXO, L.L.C. (“CXO”), which was acquired by FTI in 2008. At FTI he co-leads the Technology Practice, the Activism and M&A Solutions Practice, and the Aerospace, Defense and Government Contracting Practice (“A&D”), and handles the most complex restructuring, activist and operational engagements for FTI. In the past 20 years, he has served as CEO, CRO or Director of over two dozen public and private Technology, Media and Telecom (“TMT”) and defense companies, including serving as the CEO of 4 telecom companies, 2 software companies and a mid-tier defense contractor. In the last 10 years, he has led over 50 engagements involving all aspects of TMT and A&D as well as staffing solutions, payment processors, semiconductors, gaming, aerospace MRO, auto parts manufacturing, and data center providers. These projects involved every aspect of corporate performance, from quarterbacking complex restructurings to strategy and go-to-market planning to revenue enhancement to cost cutting to supply chain management to digital and social marketing strategy. Over the last decade, Dr. Kushner has bought or sold over 20 companies and conducted diligence reviews on over 40 companies for PE and hedge funds, along with providing assistance to organizations in revenue enhancement, cyber-security, digital strategy, outsourcing, governance and SG&A cost reduction.

In addition to his current board roles, Dr. Kushner previously served as a member of the Board and Chairman of the Audit Committee of EveryWare Global, and as the lead Director and member of the Audit Committee of Damovo, an ultrahigh reliability international telecom, cyber, data and mobile services company (sold in two strategic transactions in 2015 after achieving over 20% reductions in SG&A and R&D costs). He served as the Managing Member/Director and then interim CEO of DLN, an IT, cyber-security and aerospace engineering services defense contractor with operations at major US military installations and in Iraq and Afghanistan (company sold in 3 strategic transactions after resolving multiple litigation and DCAA issues), and was also formerly Chairman of the Innovative Companies in the Caribbean and a Director of Headway Solutions, a staffing and training company.

In 2015 he served as the the CRO of Relativity Media (2 363 asset sale transactions). Prior to this he was the CEO and acting Chairman of Sage Telecom, a Texas CLEC He led the turnaround of Sage from a loss to EBITDA of 18% of revenues in 9 months, reducing bad debt from 11% to 2% and monthly churn from over 7.5% to under 4%. As CRO and post emergence CEO of Pacific Crossing, the former Asia-Pacific affiliate of Global Crossing, he led the company through a contentious bankruptcy in the US, Japan, UK and Bermuda, stabilized operations, grew revenue and generated profits and positive cash flow, resolved over $2 B in claims, resulting in the sale of the company to NTT in 2009. At wine.com, he restructured the company through litigation, regulatory issues, credit card fraud and chargeback challenges, grew revenues and led an IT systems modernization and resolved IT supplier problems. As CRO and CEO at Intira, the managed applications software and data center company, he brought the company to cash flow neutral in 60 days, led revaluations of all leased equipment and premises and closed a 363 sale to a strategic buyer. Other recent operational, business transformation and advisory engagements have included serving as the lead engagement partner on multiple digital media and adtech companies, Sequa, Playboy, Outfront Media (formerly CBS Outdoor), Standard Register, Monster, Broadview Networks, Spansion, PRC, XO Communications, Isola GMBH, Midway Games, Nortel, Holley Auto Products, several cable firms and multiple confidential assignments. He began his career at BDM International, a defense firm, focusing on laser countermeasures and AI systems for DARPA, and classified programs and where, after 10 years, he ended up as Chief Scientist/CIO leading Advanced Technology, classified project turnarounds and DARPA business. He led aerospace and manufacturing project turnarounds after BDM was purchased by Ford Motor Company and returned to defense related turnarounds after BDM’s acquisition by Carlyle.

Dr. Kushner has been a testifying expert in over a dozen large matters in TMT, IT, data centers and M&A. Dr. Kushner was the 1997 recipient of KPMG’s Information, Communications, and Entertainment Entrepreneur of the Year award in Austin for Industry Leadership in Entrepreneurial Companies of less than 200 Employees, and was the December 2014 Commencement Speaker for the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Natural Sciences.
